Production timepieces were not sold to the public until 1853. The first watches made were kept by the company's owners.
Later, the name changed to Boston Watch Company. The firm operated under the name American Horologe Company. They set out to take American watchmaking from a cottage industry to a mechanized process using easily interchangeable parts. The business that would become the Waltham Watch Company was founded by David Davis, Aaron Dennison, and Edward Howard in 1850.
